FAQ’s

What are the works made out of?

The artwork is made from optical grade borosilicate dichroic glass. Dichroic glass is a type of glass that appears to change color when viewed from different angles or in different lighting conditions. This effect is achieved by coating the glass with multiple layers of very thin metallic oxides such as titanium, silicon, or magnesium.

To create dichroic glass, the glass is first cleaned and then coated with a layer of metallic oxides using a process called vacuum deposition. The glass is placed in a vacuum chamber, and the metallic oxides are vaporized and allowed to settle on the surface of the glass, creating a thin layer.

This process is repeated several times, with each layer being a different metallic oxide, and each layer being very thin, typically only a few nanometers thick. The thickness of the film is carefully controlled to ensure that it reflects certain wavelengths of light while allowing others to pass through. This creates the unique color-shifting effect that dichroic glass is known for.

After the final layer has been applied, the glass is typically annealed or heat-treated to ensure its durability and strength.
